Member & Hon. Fellow British Autogenic Society (BAS)
Member British Association of Social Functioning (BASF)
I originally trained as a nurse and have been grateful ever since for that introduction to the rewards of working with people. Later, through my own circumstances, I needed help for myself and found Autogenic Training (AT) in its infancy in the UK. My own process was the first experience of the surprises AT can provoke in any individual. I became increasingly fascinated.
I trained as an autogenic therapist with the late Dr Wolfgang Luthe (a leading researcher of AT) and have worked with AT as a specialist in short-term self-help since the 1980s.
As a Founder Member of the British Autogenic Society I have served on its Executive Committee for many years, and currently as a Trustee. I am a tutor and supervisor on the BAS Postgraduate Certificate in Autogenic Training professional training courses, much enjoying supporting new therapists.
I run AT courses in private practice, the workplace and complementary health centres.
I am currently working as Senior Autogenic Therapist (one of a team of four) at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine, Great Ormond Street WC1 where Autogenic Training
has been on offer to NHS patients for over 30 years.
I work with all age groups. I believe that each person has the power to make profound changes in life, using simple strategies to change attitudes and old habits. My aim is to help people help themselves to improve their well-being, and gain insight for personal growth and development.
My style is to allow the client’s process of change with positive encouragement and gentle challenge in a supportive and safe setting.
Corporate stress management
I have worked with AT in companies, and markedly reduced absentee levels.

“The role of stress and anxiety in many patients’ mental or psychosomatic problems is easy to recognise, but not so easy to remedy. AT has an impressive record of effectiveness in stress-related conditions. I can safely recommend it as an adjunct or alternative to medical treatments or psychotherapy.”

This course was so uplifting and positive, although at times it was necessary to deal with difficult things …. I feel stronger and more positive, and … am nicer to be with!” [AC 2002]
I have learned how to ‘be still at will’, and without knowing how it happened I have been more relaxed and generally happier… and organised myself to have more FUN!” [PW 2008]
AT has brought many changes in my life. I feel calmer … more in control, and sleeping well. Thank you so much and may you long continue to have such a positive effect.” [JC 2008]
You manage your clients through the course with care and diligence, always ensuring that we understand and feel supported through the process.” [PW 2008]
I would not hesitate to recommend AT – and you personally, with your reassuring, light but professional approach – to anyone who finds it hard to relax, both in mind and body.” [AB 2008]

As a busy teacher, I was very worried about the forthcoming Ofsted inspection. Using AT reduced my anxiety levels and increased my confidence. I decided I had nothing to worry about, and consequently was much more effective in my performance.” [PG 1999]
